The meaning of the archaeological term ‘Material culture’ refers to the consideration of the relationship between people and their environment, the making, history, preservation, and interpretation of objects in their possession. It draws on theory and practice from such disciplines as art history, archaeology, anthropology, history, historic preservation, folklore, and museum studies, among others. Anything from buildings and architectural elements to books, jewelry, toothbrushes, or clothing can be considered material culture.
